MAO, 1971

This is perhaps the most striking image from the show, Mao, 1971. Roy actually did the image before Warhol. At that time, they didn`t know of the atrocities of Mao, so he was popular because of the Cultural Revolution. Yea, all that was buried and remember how people worshiped him with little communist hat. "If you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain`t gonna make it with anyone anyhow." Lennon`s line comes back to haunt us, and seems apropos. This is a consummate expression of Pop art! Oh drabid, got to get ready for the Factory! Will keep Mao`s image all day in my head as therapy. Go & figure...!
